Renowned Boston magician David Hall will bring his bag of amazing illusions and tricks to Striar Jewish Community Center on Monday, Jan. 16, at 1:30 p.m. for a special family performance in honor of Martin Luther King Day.

Children's Director Michelle Jackson, who is coordinating the event, says Hall typically draws hundreds of awe-struck onlookers to his outdoor performances at Faneuil Hall Marketplace. His first-ever appearance at Striar JCC will introduce a new, young audience to Hall's trademark energy and excitement.

"Dave's magic is like no one else's," Jackson describes. "He presents a high intensity, in-your-face performance. I'm sure every child and adult who sees his show will come away laughing and cheering when he's done."

Hall's astonishing family show will include magic, illusions, levitation and more. "He swallows a three-foot balloon, floats objects in the air, and pulls off his own head and puts it back on," Jackson describes. At his popular children's shows, Hall invites youngsters to ride a Floating Carpet and teaches audience members to perform magic tricks.

The youngest magician to be certified as a Faneuil Hall street performer, Hall has skyrocketed to fame since 2001. He regularly performs at private parties for the rich and famous, including the Rolling Stones' Mick Jagger, Red Sox owner John Henry, and World Series pitcher Curt Schilling. A recent entertainer at the Celtics halftime show, he thrilled youngsters at Camp West Woods last summer.

Advance sale tickets at the JCC are $6 members, $8 non-members; add $1 at the door. The performance is appropriate for children aged 4 and older. Non-members also are invited to purchase a guest pass and spend the day at the JCC.
